Another Sunday Morning
I’m chillin’ at da Holiday eeeeeeeeeeinn, in Alliance, Nebraska. Did an all day drive from the Grand Tetons thru Wyoming, and into Nebraska. We’re going to go to Carhenge in about an hour and 1/2 to catch the sunrise with the Galaxie. Maybe I’ll sleep after that. I forget what sleep is. In five days, we’ve put over 2100 miles on her, and she’s running super duper fine…
Quick story……..We’re driving thru Packwood, WA, a couple of days ago, and stop at an Exxon station to get some water for Maggie, as we’ve been driving in the hot sun for a few hours. I pull up to the only shady spot at the station with the intention of running in and getting some water. We didn’t need gas, so it was going to be a quick pit stop and we’d be on our way. There are a couple of gas station attendants there, and as soon as I get out, this lady comes up to me and asks,
” Are you gonna get gas?”
I say,” No, thank you, I just need to get some water for my dog”.
She walks toward me and Maggie starts barking loudly. She does a standing reverse broad jump of about 12 feet, rolls her eyes, and clutches her chest. I apologize profusely, and tell that Maggie is just saying hello. She replies, ” If you ain’t gettin’ gas, you can’t park here”.
I say, ” Okay, I’ll get some gas”.
She spits back, ” Well, you’re not a pump!”
I say, ” Okay, I’ll back up”.
She retorts, ” You can’t back up, you gotta pull ahead”.
I respond, ” All right, I’ll pull ahead then”.
She grunts and walks back to the front door, complaining loudly to her co-worker about me.
I smile, get in the car, and pull ahead, right to the exit, and drive away.
So now, the Galaxie is far, far, away, from the happy lady at the Packwood Exxon.
