Hello again

Trip Reports 7 July 2005 | 0 Comments

Hello Y’all,

It’s been a while, I know, thanks for being patient. We’ll be getting more videos online soon, along with a few more tales from the road. This month has been busy for the whole crew, getting back to daily schedules, taking care of business left undone during the trip, haircuts, lawn work, dishes, and court dates. We’re currently getting ready for the Galaxie Nationals Gathering in Dearborn, MI on August 12th, 13th, and 14th. The final day of the gathering we’ll be shooting the Galaxie Cruise down Woodward Ave with all the Galaxies that come for the event. Currently there are over 80 other Galaxies registered, so it should be quite an experience! For more info, you can check the Motor City Galaxie page at www.motorcitygalaxieclub.com. We’d love to see you there if your schedule allows.

We’d also like to thank you all for the comments, we love getting them and look forward to anything you have to say. On that note, I’d like to use this space to personally thank everyone who has contributed to the Galaxie Project. This list is as current as last week, so anyone not included may feel free to contact me at tommy@tommyfoster.com with their name, and I’ll be happy to add it. Thank you all so much, without each and every one of you, this would not have happened.

Lake Shore Drive to Coldwater

O’Malley’s West in Chicago……. The gig was good, the bar was full, and it was loud! Thank you Scott Johnson, Matt Imig, and the wonderful staff at O’Malley’s for your kindness. Lincoln Ave. at 3am is a seething frenzy of drunken bipedal creatures stumbling aimlessly into the oncoming influx of the 64 million taxi cabs competing for fares. What a town! I was bringing the Galaxie up to the bar to load up the gear and crew, when I made a wrong turn on a one way. You know you’re in the wrong lane when everything’s coming your way! I got the big hairy eyeball from the cab driver I blocked in, but after an apology and a quick explanation of my out-of-town ineptness to him, he frowned and let me by. I jetted into the next available intersection and found my way back to the proper direction. In the meantime, the U-haul was getting yelled at by Chicago P.D. to move out of the loading zone, the guys convinced the officer to allow them to stay until I got there. We lost our radio signals, and had to yell out the window to one another between horn blasts from cab drivers and screaming cars full of drunken party-goers.
We made our way to Drew and Monica’s abode, where they so graciously gave us shelter for the evening. Maggie got worked up while we were gone and tore out one of the screen windows on the RV. It must have been one of the thousands of dogs leading their masters thru the neighborhood got her worked up. She likes to play. Don’t we all?
Drew and Monica, you guys rock! Thanks so much for your hospitality. Another great example of the kindness of friends and strangers along the route. I am so thankful for this opportunity to do this, and I thank everyone who has helped and/or contributed in some way. What comes around goes around, so I remind myself to treat people the way I’d like to be treated.
Leaving Chicago, we said goodbye and then hello to Indiana. Gary, Indiana. The industrial landscape was interesting in it’s own way, and the sudden shift back to nature at the Lakeshore Dunes was pleasant. We stopped for dinner at the “Pumps on 12″ restaraunt, where the staff let us film a bit of their automotive memorabilia for the journey. We swapped some t-shirts, left some posters and postcards, took some pictures, and I donated one of my Galaxie hub caps to adorn their wall with the others. I sure hope they send me a picture……
Landed in Coldwater, Michigan this morning with no brake lights. After checking the fuses, they still don’t work. I think it may be the switch, but I haven’t found it yet. We’ll have the U-Haul follow the rest of the way til I can get ‘er done. I think we’re going to meet up with Ron Bachman today, and cruise with him around Saline. He’s got a killer trike with a big motor. He’ll kill me in a race, so I’m not going to even offer.
Our final stop is next Sunday, at the U.S. 12 American Bar in Wayne, MI. We’re going to play from 6-8pm. I’m hoping we’ll get some other Galaxie drivers from the Detroit area to come and be interviewed, maybe we’ll do a short cruise along 12 there too. Saturday the 11th, we’ll be at Cleary’s pub in Chelsea. I hope to see lots of folks there also.
We’ve still got a ton of clips and stories to enter, we’re just backlogged due to rough patches in internet availability and time, sweet precious time. There’s never enough time to do all you want to do, it seems. Keep checking the posts, we may include some that are back-dated, so make sure and refresh your browsers and scroll thru all the pages if you’ve got time.

Happy motoring……………………………………………
